After the very first up close encounter with a cactus today, my oldest son and I learned a very important lesson. We thought those big prickly things would be sharp, so when I tested them out and they felt like rubber, we decided to touch the big green leaves. We were very surprised at how smooth and rubbery they felt, until a few mins later, we realized we had several teeny tiny splinters in our fingers. No more touching for us. We are probably the only 2 people on the planet that didn't know this, but now we do. :)

Lovely edit, I didn't know that either, I don't think.
Oh dear... I learned this the hard way too...don't touch those soft fuzzy ones either...OUCH! This is a beautiful capture.
OH My.. I have never touch a cactus. Have been tempted but too afraid of what might happen. LOL
Ah, yep, it's those little guys that are far worse than the big thorns!
Ouch!! :( I didn't know that either. I'm really diggin' this photo and your edit.
wonderful photo of this prickly catcus, yes, generally it is not a good idea to touch them
Sorry you had to find that out the hard way, but this photo is amazing, so maybe it was worth a little pain. I really like your composition and edit on it; it looks so professional!
this is very cool!
Eek! I would not have known either! I love the creamy look of this photo though... they sure don't look prickly here!
